Jan 6, 2016 - Today we toured the Tierre del Fuego
National Park. Tierre del Fuego means land of fire. This protected area is the
southernmost National Park and is where the Pan-American Highway ends. We hiked
for 3 hours along the coast and through the forest. The scenery was beautiful
and we were lucky enough to see condor and wood peckers along with other more
common birds. There were also archaeological sites from the Yamanas across the
coastline.
After the beautiful hike we had lunch. Our
group consisted of Brazilians, Italians, Americans, one French young woman and
our Argentinian guide. We then broke into teams of 4 for the canoeing or
rafting trip. These “canoes” were inflatable rafts that held 4 people. We
paddled down the river through the national park for about 1 ½ hours. The water
is so clear you can see down to the bottom. This was a fun way to see more of
the park and the beautiful landscape. It
was a long and tiring day for sure though.
