Stray Bus Trip to Wellington Begins

Hahei & Hot Water Beach
Our first day on the Stray Bus we went to the Coromandel Peninsula where we stayed in a town called Hahei. We hiked to the Cathedral Cove. It was so beautiful. Then we went to the Hot Water Beach to sit in some hot pools. We tried to dig a hole in the sand where the hot water was, but it was not that great – the waves kept rushing into our pools & making the water cold. Since I was cold anyway I decided to go in the ocean with some of the others. The waves were huge & we had a blast just getting knocked around. It was only afterwards that we found out that was the 4th most dangerous beach in New Zealand. Good thing we didn’t go too deep. That night we had a BBQ with everyone from the Stray Bus & just hung out getting to know each other.

Raglan – Surfing!
Left Hahei on the East Coast for Raglan on the West Coast – the surfing capital of new Zealand. On the way we stopped in Paeroa. This is where L & P the NZ soda originated. Eventually we reached Raglan where Andy, myself and others from the Stray Bus took a Surf lesson. It was so fun! Here is the view from my hostel. Also there was a really sweet zip line (or a flying fox as Kiwi’s call it). Ate way too much homemade Mac & Cheese that night.

  1. Hey Sarah! Thanks for the update! Kelly was in Rotorua and Taupo too, and they had their flat in Wellington!! I think she really loved it there, if I recall. She's actually still so "heartsick" about not being in New Zealand, that she can't even read your blog.....but hopefully she'll get up the nerve before too long! I'm sure she'd have SO much to share with you! Have fun, kiddo! Love, Aunty Lynn XO
